45th Parallel Universe presents “Illuminations” from 7 to 8 p.m. March 23 at The Old Madeleine Church, 3123 N.E. 24th Ave., Portland. Clarinetist James Shields leads the 45th Parallel ensemble in a multimedia performance of four pieces inspired by visual art, thematically connected by light and shadow. Works include John Luther Adams’ “The Light That Fills the World,” Joan Tower’s “Fantasy (Those Harbor Lights)” for clarinet and piano, Andy Akiho’s “Lost on Chiaroscuro Street” and Andrew Norman’s “Light Screens” for flute and string trio).
