Critical Thinking on Media, Information and Power

March 19 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

free

Art at the Cave presents “Critical Thinking on Media, Information and Power” from 5 to 6 p.m. March 19 at 108 E. Evergreen Blvd., Vancouver. Washington State University Vancouver professors Sam Lohmann and Laurie Mercier discuss how we can become more informed and critical media and information consumers, users and creators. They will look at how the media covered the Holocaust, the persecution of the Roma people and Israel’s war on Gaza to understand the process of selection, emphasis and bias that lead to misunderstanding of current and past events. They will lead an interactive discussion on shared practices of source evaluation, media literacy and intentional media usage in the current climate. Admission is free. This presentation is in conjunction with the gallery’s current “Seeking Warmth” exhibit.
