Above and Below Art Studio is offering classes for high school students multi-week art camps. Choose from two nine-week sessions (3 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. Tuesdays, May 21-July 16, or Thursdays, May 23-July 18) or two five-week sessions (11 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Saturdays, May 18-June 15, or Wednesdays, May 22-June 19). Classes are in the Marketplace atrium (near Java House and Art on the Boulevard) at 210 W. Evergreen Blvd., Vancouver. Students will enjoy group discussions, one-on-one guidance, brief lectures and critiques of the previous week’s projects. Attendees will paint, dive into early abstract art history, master the art and vocabulary of a robust critique and translate it into artistic growth and original style. Students will explore color theory, elements of composition, painting from still-life arrangements as well as real life, improvisation based on early 20th-century art history of abstraction and learn how to interpret concepts and ideas.
