Biochar Demonstration Burn and Woodland Tour

The Small Acreage Program of Clark County Extension will offer a Biochar Burn Demonstration and a Small Acreage Woodland Tour from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 3 on a small acreage residence at 21312 N.W. 17th Ct., Ridgefield. Local biochar expert and woodland steward, Steve Thalberg, will show attendees ages 15 and up how to make biochar using a Ring of Fire Biochar Kiln. (Biochar is a type of charcoal that is burned at a specific temperature range and with limited oxygen.) The burn will begin promptly at 9 a.m. and the woodland tour is 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., when attendees can learn about best management practices for watershed and small acreage woodland health. Registration is $10 at biochar2025.bpt.me or walk-ins are welcome for $15 cash or check. Attendees can drop in for any portion of the day. Students, high school and up, may attend at no cost.
