Christmas at The Grotto and Virtual Advent Celebration
December 18, 2020 @ 9:00 am - 6:30 pm
An event every week that begins at 9:00am on Tuesday and Friday, repeating until December 31, 2020
The Grotto’s Christmas celebration will be different this year. The Catholic sanctuary and gardens will not host its usual evening lighting event (The Christmas Festival of Lights) due to COVID-19 and concern for the health and safety of guests, volunteers, staff and neighbors. However, everyone is invited to attend Christmas at The Grotto during usual daytime hours, 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. until Dec. 31 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. thereafter. All activities on the lower-level gardens are free to everyone.
Beginning the day after Thanksgiving and continuing through New Year’s Day, visitors can:
- Visit the Nativity
- Walk the path and listen to the story of the birth of Jesus
- Write wishes and prayers on the Trees of Hope
- Visit the Chapel of Mary
- Light a candle
- Take a holiday photo in one of the great photo op spots
- Do some Christmas shopping in The Grotto Gift Shop
Those who purchase admission to the scenic Upper Gardens will enjoy special seasonal decorations. There will be extra outdoor activities on the weekends. Admission to the Upper Gardens is $8 general admission, $7 for seniors and military, $4.50 for children ages 6 to 12, and free for children 5 and under. Visit thegrotto.org for more details or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Grotto will also be hosting a daily Virtual Advent Celebration, which will include activities, music and more. This will be particularly enjoyable for those who love the Festival of Lights. Anyone interested in participating in the Virtual Advent Celebration can sign up at thegrotto.org to receive the daily emails during Advent. The Virtual Advent Celebration will begin on the first day of Advent, Sunday, Nov. 29.
