Columbia Dance presents “The Fort Vancouver Nutcracker”

Columbia Dance presents its local history-inspired, reimagined “Nutcracker” with performances at 1 and 5 p.m. Dec. 16 and 17. A sensory-friendly performance will also be offered at 6 p.m. Dec. 15. This one-of-a-kind production features beavers fighting fur trappers, dancing wapato plants and Oregon Trail children arriving by covered wagon. Audiences will see a holiday party in the Chief Factor’s dining room of 1840s Fort Vancouver. John McLoughlin brings a stranger into their midst, a fur trapper whose tales capture the imagination of young Cecilia Douglas and inspire a dream of beavers stealing a top hat, a mystical woman conjuring the moon, shipwrecked castaways and salmon fighting the river’s current. All shows are at Skyview High School, 1300 N.W. 139th St., Vancouver. Tickets are $23 for adults, $18 for children and seniors or $30 to view a livestream. Get tickets at columbiadance.org.
