The Camas Public Library, in partnership with the Xerces Society, will host an in-person class, “Introduction to Pollinators and Home Habitat Assessment,” from 6:30 to 8 p.m. May 10. Topics include a brief introduction to the Xerces Society, a nonprofit organization that promotes conservation of invertebrates; an introduction to pollinators and their importance in natural systems and our food system; native bee diversity and natural history; butterfly basics; threats facing pollinators; and how we can play a role in pollinator conservation, both in general and in our own landscapes and communities. The class will be lead by Dave Kollen, a Xerces Society ambassador and certified master melittologist. He also performs community science work by conducting surveys for the Pacific Northwest Bumble Bee Atlas.
Registration is required at CamasPL.org/May10.
