Clark College’s Archer Gallery presents, “Lane Departure,” a virtual exhibit by Clark College art professors
from Sept. 20 to Nov. 12 with an Artist Talk and Opening Reception at noon Oct. 15. All events are open to the public and will be held virtually via Zoom with links available from www.archergallery.space. For the exhibit, Clark College art professors departed, in some way, from their regular practice, whether thematically, by using a new medium, or be engaging in artistic exploration through studies and sketches. All work is new and made since the beginning of the pandemic, inspired in part by the theme of Lane Departure. For more details, and to view Lane Departure online, visit www.archergallery.space.

The exhibit considers the past 18 months: How much has changed, how much has stayed the same and how far from pre-pandemic “norms” the faculty has veered, for better or worse. How has the pandemic impacted teaching artists’ ideas of boundaries and limits? Lane Departure provides a  pedagogical perspective on artmaking during the pandemic. The question, “How important is staying in the lines?” comes to the forefront, literally and abstractly. The quintessential American road trip also comes to mind, what it means to hold both possibility and uncertainty at once.
