The Oregon Symphony presents Little Ears Free Concerts for Kids at Portland’s Old Church Concert Hall on the corner of Southwest Clay and 11th Avenue. These free concerts will be held at 10 a.m. on March 24 (RESCHEDULED TO NOV. 24 DUE TO CONCERNS ABOUT COVID-19), April 14 and May 19. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. Each concert is 40 minutes long and appropriate for children ages 2 to 7. Here’s the concert schedule:
April 14: The Magic Flute. Pianists Maria Antonia Garcia and Momoko Muramatsu perform a four-hand arrangement of Mozart’s famous singspiel, “The Magic Flute.” This kid friendly adaptation tells a story that includes a bird seller, a captured princess, a prince who wants to rescue her, an evil Queen of the Night, and, of course, a magic flute.
May 19: Jessa Campbell & the Saplings bring music and ecology to kids. Campbell is an Oregon-based performer who bridges the worlds of music and ecology by enchanting young audiences with the wonders of nature through her songs. Caregivers can expect a blend of familiar folk children’s songs mixed with original tunes written about what it’s like to grow up in the Pacific Northwest.
Nov. 24 (RESCHEDULED FROM MARCH 24): Penny’s Puppets presents “The 3 Little Pigs and the Huffy Puffy Wolf,” a twist on the traditional tale. The three little pigs all have to move out of mom’s house and build houses on their own. The Big Bad Wolf huffs and puffs and tries to blow all their homes down. Where does all this huffing and puffing get him? Tired and alone. In the end, the pigs and the wolf form an unlikely friendship.
