Magenta Theater presents online production of “Mayflies in June”
June 5 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 8:00am on Monday and Friday, repeating until June 29, 2020
Magenta Theater presents an original, one-act production of “Mayflies in June,” on original play by Vancouver writer Katt Janson Merilo, launching on YouTube June 1.
In 2011, Magenta Theater held a playwriting class taught by Aleks Merilo. One of the students, Katt Janson (now Merilo), used a family memory to create a one-act play within that class. The play was performed at Rosemary Café circa 2011 and then again at Magenta Theater. The playwright and the original actors have re-created the play for virtual presentation.
Janson Merilo introduces the YouTube video with memories still clear in her mind of spending time at the family cabin in Michigan. She recalls a fascination with seeing the porch screen covered with clinging mayflies.
Hannah Greenlee and Michael Evan Adent recreate their roles as Beth and Joe – the two mayflies. Modification of movements were taken into consideration for social distancing guidelines. Filmed and edited by Amanda Goff, on the Hidden House Market lawn, the video is approximately 20 minutes long, just shy of the actual mayfly lifespan.
This free production can be viewed from June 1 onward by visiting www.youtube.com/magentatheater. The video will be designated as “featured content” so it will be easy to find. There will also be a link at www.magentatheater.com.
