Metropolitan Performing Arts presents “Bare: A Pop Opera”

May 28, 2023 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

$21 – $25

Metropolitan Performing Arts presents “Bare: A Pop Opera,” May 11-28 at 6403 E. Mill Plain Blvd., Vancouver. The play follows students at a Catholic boarding school, dealing with heavy topics and teenaged kids looking for healing and answers as they grapple with sexuality, identity and the future. Peter, an altar boy, and Jason, a popular athlete, have fallen in love with each other, but Jason fears losing his status if he is discovered to be gay. Unpopular Nadia, Jason’s sister, is disdainful of Ivy, a beautiful girl with a questionable reputation. As the group attempts to put up a production of Romeo and Juliet, tensions flare and self-doubt surfaces. The musical, which contains mature material and themes, is suitable for audiences age 16 and older. For more information, call Kris Heller at 360-975-1585.

Showtimes are 8 p.m. May 11, 12, 13, 18, 20, 25, 26 and 27. There is an additional 7 p.m. showing on May 19. Matinee shows are 2 p.m. May 21 and 28. May 21 is Pride Night and the May 27 showing includes a post-play discussion, “God Don’t Make No Trash,” with Keegan King. Advance tickets are $25 or $21 for students, seniors and military; purchase tickets online at metropolitanperformingarts.org/bare.html. Tickets are more expensive at the door.
