The Historic Music Preservation Project will present “You Oughta Be in Pictures,” featuring early hits of Hollywood and Tin Pan Alley performed by the Ne Plus Ultra Jass Orchestra, live at Kiggins Theatre, 1011 Main St., Vancouver, at 7 p.m. July 28. Tickets are $25, available at kigginstheatre.com. For more information, email email@example.com.
The ensemble, which specializes in recreating the sounds of the pioneer jazz bands and hotel orchestras of the 1920s and 30s, returns to Kiggins Theatre after selling out the local venue last November.
Sammuel Murry-Hawkins leads the 11-piece Vancouver-based ensemble through a catalog of tunes by top early cinema and Tin Pan Alley songwriters, including works made popular by Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, Bing Crosby, and Bob Hope. Audiences will recognize tunes from early American movie musicals in addition to the Charlestons, foxtrots and tangos of the era.
