The Historic Music Preservation Project and The Historic Trust present the Ne Plus Ultra Jass Orchestra at 7 p.m. on the first Friday of each month at the Providence Academy Ballroom in conjunction with the Vancouver’s Downtown Association First Friday Art Walk. Tickets are $15 in cash or $16 with a card and are available at historicmusic.org/upcoming-events.
The ensemble, which specializes in recreating the fully orchestrated sounds of the pioneer jazz bands and hotel orchestras of the 1920s and 30s, has produced multiple events at Kiggins Theatre and was featured at the Vancouver Wine and Jazz Festival. Sammuel Murry-Hawkins leads the 11-piece Vancouver-based ensemble through a catalog of tunes by early jazz composers, including works by George Gershwin, Irving Berlin and Duke Ellington.
