Fort Vancouver National Historic Site will launch the new Bark Ranger Tour from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., May 17, at 1501 E. Evergreen Blvd., Vancouver. Visit the Fort Vancouver Visitor Center to pick up a map and participate in a self-guided tour that honors the Fort Vancouver’s canine legacy. Each stop on the map has a QR code. Scan the code to read a short story about the role of dogs in the park’s history. Dogs were companions and working animals for Indigenous peoples, fur traders, soldiers and settlers. Answer six questions on the handout to receive a Bark Ranger certificate. The Visitor Center bookstore will also sell Bark Ranger tags for $4.95. Dogs must be leashed at all times and kept away from wildlife. Owners must bag their dogs’ waste and dispose of it in a trash can. Learn more at go.nps.gov/PetsAtFOVA.
