TreeSong Nature Awareness and Retreat Center will host a virtual class, “Winter Birds of the Pacific Northwest Coast,” from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 12. Murres, loons, scoters, guillemots, turnstones and oystercatchers frequent our rocky shores, offshore waters and quiet bays. Learn how to spot them and where to find them from instructor Laura Whittemore so you’ll be prepared for your next drive west. Whittemore has taught classes for Audubon Society of Portland and previously worked for Backyard Bird Shop. She holds a BA in Biology from Lewis and Clark College and has traveled in the U.S.A., Australia, South Africa and Antarctica in search of birds.
Registration is required at treesongnatureawareness.org/class-registration/winterbirdsofthepnwcoastfebruary2023. The class fee ranges from $10 to $20. Email hello@treesongnatureawareness.org for a BIPOC discount. There will also be a separate but related all-day birding field trip to the Oregon Coast on Feb. 25.
