“Orcas: Our Shared Future” at OMSI

The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry presents the U.S. premiere of Orcas: Our Shared Future, an exhibit that offers a deep dive into the stories and science that surround the orca, spirit of the Pacific Northwest’s wild coast and apex predator of all oceans. OMSI is the first museum in the United States to feature this exhibit, which runs through Jan. 28, 2024. Through displays, games and videos, visitors can explore currents of ecological activism, popular culture and Indigenous beliefs to gain a deeper understanding of how orcas and humans are connected. Visitors will have the opportunity to experience orcas up close via three life-sized replicas. Additionally, the exhibition features more than a hundred artifacts and objects, including Indigenous artwork and a full-size reclaimed cedarwood orca skeleton.

The exhibit is included with the cost of museum admission, which is $18 for adults, $13 for kids ages 3 to 13 and $15 for seniors. Purchase tickets at omsi.edu. Museum hours are 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and Sundays and 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturdays. The museum, 1945 S.E. Water Ave., Portland, is closed on Mondays.
