Vancouver’s homage to the dance bands of a bygone era, the Ne Plus Ultra Jass Orchestra, hosts monthly dances at Portland’s Village Ballroom. The 11-piece ensemble painstakingly recreates the sounds of the society dance bands of the 1920s and 30s that performed on ocean liners and in grand Art Deco ballrooms. Fronted by Sammuel Murry-Hawkins, band leader and vocalist, the ensemble frequently presents guest musicians representing the region’s top jazz talent.

The ensemble performs every third Friday at the Village Ballroom, 704 N.E. Dekum St., Portland. Tickets are $10 or $5 for Arts for All members.
