The next Science on Tap is “Modern Baby-Making: How Reproductive Tech Impacts Our Identity,” 7 p.m. Feb. 14 at the Kiggins Theatre, 1011 Main St., Vancouver. Tickets are $15 to $45, available at kigginstheatre.com/movie/science-on-tap-modern-baby-making-2.
Advances in reproductive medicine not only enable us to create humans in all sorts of ways; they also empower us to form familiar in novel ways. Even so, when teaching children about how and why babies are born, ideas about the traditional nuclear family leads the conversation. Using science, stories and personal experience, educator and consultant Rachel Ginocchio discusses how to expand the explanation of human reproduction and family formation to include all humans in any family structure, helping kids gain a better sense of themselves, their family and the world.
