Soundtrack for a Revolution
February 27 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pmfree
Attend a free showing of the documentary “Soundtrack for a Revolution,” with discussion to follow the film in celebration of Black History Month. This film will get you singing with the powerful music of the American civil rights movement – the freedom songs protesters sang on picket lines, in mass meetings, in paddy wagons and in jail cells as they fought for justice and equality. These songs evolved from slave chants, from the labor movement, and especially from the Black church. The music enabled African-Americans to sing words they could not say, and it was crucial in helping the protesters as they faced down brutal aggression with dignity and non-violence. In this film, these moving songs are performed by modern performers John Legend, the Roots, Richie Havens, Wyclef Jean and more.
Special guest speaker local Jazz legend, the Doctor of Bebop, David Watson.
Doors open at 6:15 pm, snacks and beverages available for purchase. Donations appreciated.
