The Friends of Fort Vancouver will offer five spring felting workshops, taught by artist Juneko Martinson. All skill levels are welcome, from beginner to experienced, ages 12 and up.
Martinson is a featured artist in the Friends’ Bookstore and Gallery in the Fort Vancouver Visitor Center (located at 1501 E. Evergreen Blvd., Vancouver). The shop carries a generous selection of her handmade “critters.”
Martinson raises alpaca and sheep on a small farm in Brush Prairie, and her love of animals finds its way into her fiber artwork. The animals and birds she creates for the Friends’ Bookstore reflect the native wildlife, livestock, and pets that lived at Fort Vancouver and Vancouver Barracks over hundreds of years. Martinson processes wool and fibers on her small farm, carding and coloring them with natural dyes. The kits used in each class are designed and assembled by the artist.
Registration is $35 per workshop, all of which are held at the Fort Vancouver Visitor Center from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The fee includes instruction and a fiber art kit. Register in the Friends’ Bookstore at the Fort Vancouver Visitor Center or by calling 360-816-6216. Payment is expected at the time of registration and the fee is non-refundable. Space is limited to 14 people per workshop. For more details, visit www.nps.gov/fova/learn/news/feltingworkshopsspring2019.htm.
