Behind the Shoji summer marketplace returns to Portland Japanese Garden from June 29 to Sept. 2 during garden hours. The market features hard-to-find Japanese wares that you probably wouldn’t find short of a trip to Japan itself. Among the items available for sale are temari (thread-wrapped handballs) and incense holders, jewelry and glass vases with kinpaku or gold leaf. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays through Mondays. The garden is closed Tuesdays. Tickets range from $15.95 to $21.95 and can be purchased at tickets.japanesegarden.org.
