TreeSong Nature Awareness Center presents “The Artful Field Journal Series: Watercolors in the Wild” with Andie Thrams. This is a continuing series of monthly online classes for field journal keepers, plein air artists and painters to paint with increasing ease both indoors and out. This two-part class is 9:30 a.m. to noon March 11 and April 15. Step-by-step sequences explore watercolor and gouache painting techniques, drawing, color studies, tools of the trade, field journal approaches, artist book creation, botanicals, composition and design, tips for painting outdoors and how these practices can kindle joy and deepen a connection to nature and to others.
In this class, students will apply what they’ve learned so far and create a basic book structure. This two-part class invites spring flora into making a folding folio with pockets, perfect to hold class artwork for future reference and inspiration. In Part 1 on March 11, students will create shimmering paper surfaces on large sheets, inspired by spring flora, using watercolor, ink and mica. End Part 1 with painted paper, ready to fold and finish in Part 2 on April 15. In Part 2, add finishing touches with gouache, colored pencil and mica. All will come together as students fold, glue, and complete their folios. All experience levels are welcome. Classes will be recorded and available online at treesongnatureawareness.org for two weeks. Register at treesongnatureawareness.org/class-registration/afjsurfacedesignpart123 Class fees range from $10 to $47.
