Denis Hayes, a key organizer of the first Earth Day in 1970, has been instrumental in advocating for environmental awareness and action. The new art exhibit Roots of a Movement: Denis Hayes, Camas, and Earth Day, opening in the Camas Library’s Second Story Gallery from 5 to 8 p.m. April 4, will explore the origins of Earth Day and the pivotal role played by Camas native Hayes in launching the environmental movement. This exhibit is presented in collaboration with the Camas Earth Day Society. At 6 p.m. April 9, the Camas Library and Camas Earth Day Society will present An Evening with Denis Hayes. This discussion will explore Hayes’ legacy and how he inspired the Camas Earth Day Society and its mission to promote environmental stewardship. The event will culminate with a question and answer session with Hayes, via Zoom.
