The Camas Public Library will host a Zoom presentation about Cold War-era Hollywood with Humanities Washington speaker Robert Horton, 6 to 7:30 p.m. March 11. The Red Scare in the 1940s allowed the House Committee on Un-American Activities to grab headlines by parading Hollywood actors before the cameras. Witnesses couldĀ defy the hearings at the risk of their careers or inform on their colleagues. This presentation, illustrated with film clips, tells the stories from this era, and how notables such as Humphrey Bogart, Elia Kazan and Charlie Chaplin were swept up in the frenzy. Are we living in such a period again? Registration is required at CamasPL.org/BlacklistEra. Attendees will be sent a link to the Zoom discussion when the meeting begins.
