Cascadia Composers celebrates the centennial of the birth of Gyὂrgy Ligeti from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. June 4 at The Old Madeleine Church, 3123 N. 24th Ave., Portland. Tickets are $10 to $25 at cascadiacomposers.org. Film directors Stanley Kubrick and Martin Scorsese used his stunning sounds in films such as “2001: A Space Odyssey,” “The Shining,” “Shutter Island” and “Eyes Wide Shut.” The concert will feature Ligeti’s Six Bagatelles for wind quintet, selections from his Etudes for Piano and his fantasy for soprano and piano, “Mysteries of the Macabre.” The concert will also feature premieres by members of Cascadia Composers Michael Johanson, Gary Noland, Paul Safar, John Bilotta, Antonio Celaya, Alex Shapira and Daria Baiocchi. Additional performers will include wind ensemble Arcturus Quintet, coloratura soprano Madeline Ross, violinist Emily Cole, and pianists Myrna Setiawan, Rebecca Stager, Colleen Adent, Ben Gimm and Alexander Schwarzkopf.
