Clark County Public Health offers “Conscious Consumption,” a free educational series at the Cascade Park Community Library, 600 N.E. 136th Ave. in East Vancouver, highlighting environmentally friendly lifestyles. The series features workshops and events about sustainability topics, including food waste reduction, worm bin composting, sustainable fashion and crafting with recycled materials. Here is the schedule:

  • Consumption Consequences Board Game for Teens: 2-3 p.m. Feb. 25. Teens 12-19 years old can play a game about the environmental impacts of common purchases.
  • Recycle 101: 2-3 p.m. March 4. Learn what items can be recycled in blue curbside carts and what happens to the items after they’re picked up.
  • Worm Bin Composting: 2-3 p.m. March 25. Learn how to compost at home using red worms, turning food scraps into all-natural fertilizer. Participants will receive supplies for their own worm bin.
  • Worm Bin Exploration and Decomposer Bingo: 2-3 p.m. April 15. Children can play a bingo game that allows them to get up close and personal with the invertebrates that help break down waste, including red worms, spiders and centipedes.
  • Trashion Show: 2-3 p.m. May 13. Youth 12-19 years old can create a wearable garment or accessory for the Trashion Show runway or submit artwork for a gallery show. All entries must be made from reused or recycled materials. Registration is required.
