Downtown Camas is hosting “Gnome & Fairy Backyard Adventure” from 5 to 8 p.m. First Friday, May 3, along Fourth Avenue and downtown cross-streets. Attendees can enjoy free games, crafts, treats and activities while taking advantage of after-hours shopping, dining and art shows. Participants can pick up a First Friday Passport and Activity List at the Downtown Camas Association tables at Journey Church, 304 N.E. Fourth Ave. First Friday activities include:
- Get pictures taken with Mr. and Mrs. Gnome
- Find the hidden Gnome & Fairy painted rocks
- At Periwinkle’s Toy Shoppe, 326 N. Cedar St., the Fairy Twins will read David Shannon’s “Alice the Fairy” at 5:30 and 6:30 p.m.
- Make fairy slime and fairy wands with Girl Scout troop #45703 at LiveWell Camas, 417 N.E. Birch St.
- Play backyard games and explore a fairy sensory bin hosted by Journey Church
- Play “Gnome-in-One” putt putt golf game at Sweet Intention Gift Boutique, 218 N.E. Fourth Ave.
- Hunt for mushrooms hidden in downtown
- Free fairy clouds (cotton candy) from Grace Church
- Try your hand at seed saving with PDX nonprofit Rhythm Seed Farm
- Roast s’more with IQ Credit Union, corner of Fourth Avenue and Birch Street (weather permitting)
- Second Story Gallery, upstairs in the Camas Library at 625 N.E. Fourth Ave., will host “My Teacher is a Wolf: The Comics Art of Aron Nels Steinke,” an exhibit of cartoon art from the creator of Wolf’s Class, the bestselling graphic novel series for kids. Aron is a Camas native.
- Live music at Mesa, 228 N.E. Fourth Ave. to kick off Cinco de Mayo weekend.
- Come dressed as a gnome, fairy or backyard creature and be entered to win prizes
