The Portland Dahlia Society will host the 2023 American Dahlia Society National Show and convention. It’s the Olympics of the dahlia world, attracting guests and accredited dahlia judges from throughout North America, Europe and Australia. The Pacific Northwest is a prime area for growing dahlias and the exhibition is expected to attract 5000 blooms, all competing for coveted Best in Show honors. Also featured will be an estimated 100 floral arrangements featuring the dahlia, a dahlia art exhibition and a dahlia photo show.
The show, held in the Grand Ballroom at the Holiday Inn Columbia Riverfront Hotel, 909 N. Hayden Island Dr., Portland, is open to the public from noon to 5 p.m. Aug. 26 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 27. Admission to the show and parking are free. The public is also invited to attend a free “Dahlias 101” seminar at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 26, presented by the “Dahlia Diva” Deborah Dietz, curator of the Dahlia Dell in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park.
