Pomeroy Farm Kids’ Workshops

Pomeroy Farm’s kids’ workshops include an expanded schedule, bringing in local experts on everything from animal care to historical pastimes, so kids can learn about all aspects of farm life. The cost is $30 per child per class or $125 per child for the whole series. Classes run from 10 a.m. until noon each day, and families can bring lunch to enjoy at the farm after class until 1 p.m. Classes are recommended for ages 6 to 12. • Aug. 19: Farm to Table. Learn what your food looks like when it begins its journey at the farm, how it travels from the farm to your kitchen, and how to prepare it, includes terms on cuts of meat and dairy products. Explore what foliage is edible and take home  culinary creations to share.
• Aug. 20: The Chicken and the Egg. Linda Smith, will share her knowledge about the care of chickens, from the brooder on. Meet Pomeroy Farm’s and Linda’s chickens as well as playing games to practice your chicken knowledge.
• Aug. 21: Horses from Plow to Now. This workshop includes everything you need to know about caring for a horse, from teeth to toe. We will also talk about the work horses do on the farm, both historically and today. Includes multiple demonstrations of how horses eat, see, hear and move. You’ll even get to groom a real horse.
• Aug. 22: Felting and Fiber. Learn about the fiber and textile process from the animal to the artistic creation. Learn about wool processing from preparing the fiber to making a garment or other creation. See tools and how they work including carding combs, a spinning wheel and drop spindles. Participants can plan and create their own felted project to take home.
• Aug. 23: Farm Fun Crafts and Culture. Pomeroy Farm’s staff will share historical crafts like corn husk dolls and hand-dipped candles, plus an appearance from Percy the Goat.
