The Historic Trust hosts the Vancouver Barracks Military Association’s Military History Talk series once a month at the O.O. Howard House, 750 Anderson St., Vancouver. Admission is free. The next presentation is 6:30 p.m. April 27. The subject is John (Johnny) Lincoln Clem, arguably the youngest soldier to serve in the Civil War. In the course of his long career, he served at the Vancouver Barracks in the 1890s, before becoming the last Civil War veteran to retire from the United States Army. Part of his career was spent as an officer in the 24th Infantry, the Buffalo Soldiers, to which he was appointed in 1871 by President Grant.
