The West Columbia Gorge Humane Society‘s annual fundraiser, Hike on the Dike, is 9 to 11:30 a.m. Sept. 23, starting at the humane society’s dog shelter, 2695 Index Street in Washougal (just west of Captain William Clark Park). The main event is a scenic walk with your dog along the dike trail, which follows the Columbia River east to Steigerwald Lake National Wildlife Refuge. The event also includes a live DJ, raffles, a K9 demonstration at 9:30 a.m., a “dog zone,” rock painting for the shelter gardens, vendors selling pet-related items and West Columbia Gorge Humane Society merchandise and a dog kissing booth. Sign up to walk for $15; register at wcghs.org/hod or make a donation if you can’t attend. Proceeds pay for medical assistance, food and a safe haven for pets until they find new homes.
Hike on the Dike is followed by All Paws on Deck, a street fair in downtown Camas from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 23 organized by Camas High School’s DECA students. The event features a “Dog Mayor for the Day” and a doggie costume contest, a dog agility course, plus food and crafts. Visit allpawsondeck.net for more information. Many venues in downtown Camas and Washougal will also offer “Yappy Hour” discounts and specials.
