The City of Vancouver will host a guided Columbia River Plant Walk starting at the Vancouver Water Resources Education Center, 4600 S.E. Columbia Way, Vancouver, from 10 a.m. to noon May 24. The walk will focus on the trees, flowers and shrubs in the riparian zone, the habitat along the water’s edge. These transitional zones allow animals to take cover, forage and raise their young. Plants in the wetlands provide important buffers for humans, too.
Plan to walk 1.5 miles on uneven terrain, paved paths and muddy, sandy beaches. All ages are welcome. Registration is required at www.cityofvancouver.us/publicworks/webform/columbia-river-walk-plants. Attendees will receive a confirmation email with full details after registration.
