Documentary filmmaker speaks on gender violence in war zones at Washington State University Vancouver

Jan Haaken, a filmmaker, author and emeritus professor of psychology at Portland State University, will speak at WSU Vancouver from 2 to 3:15 p.m. Feb. 14 as part of a spring teach-in series titled “Catastrophe in Context: The Crisis in Palestine and Israel.” The free event is in the Undergraduate Building, Room 121, but registration is required at bit.ly/3HSLeq7. The five-part series runs through April 24. Additional events include:

  • Feb. 28: “The Impact of the Crisis on Electoral Politics,” with Paul Thiers and Mark Stephan, both associate professors of political science at WSU Vancouver
  • March 27: “The Targeting of Reporters and Cultural Workers,” with Desiree Hellegers, professor of English, and Nishant Shahani, professor of women’s, gender and sexuality studies, WSU Vancouver
  • April 10: “Health Impacts in the West Bank and Gaza,” with Patricia Kullberg, former medical director of the Multnomah County Health Department, and Lindy Eddy, professor of nursing, WSU Vancouver
  • April 24: “Censorship and Propaganda in the Crisis,” with Laurie Mercier, professor of history, and Sam Lohman, reference librarian, WSU Vancouver

WSU Vancouver is located at 14204 N.E. Salmon Creek Ave. in Vancouver. Find a campus map at vancouver.wsu.edu/map. Parking is available at meters and in the Blue Daily Pay lot for $4 a day, $2 after 5 p.m. and free after 7 p.m. and on weekends.
