TreeSong Nature Awareness and Retreat Center, located at 41 Tree-ific Drive W. in Washougal, will host a Friction Fire Weekend starting on May 20. In this two-day workshop, attendees will dive deep into the hearth of friction fire, creating kits from elements in the landscape and discovering new ways to improve success with the bow-and-drill methods. Attendees will practice hand drill techniques and learn about the many other methods associated with friction fire ignition. Much of the time will be spent practicing, crafting and modifying fire kits. The course, led by Brenton Spratlen, also includes knife work and knot-tying. The cost per person is $200.
