“Wild Around the Edges, The Healing Power of Words and Pictures” is an exhibit at Legacy Salmon Creek’s Cancer Healing Center featuring the art of Bija Gutoff. The opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 19 kicks off Legacy’s artist-in-residence program featuring Bija Gutoff and Legacy Health Art Therapist Margaret Hartsook, who will speak on the importance of art in healing. Readings from the Words for Healing writing group will be shared. The program begins at 5:45 p.m. at Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center Cancer Healing Center, Medical Office Building B, First Floor, 2211 N.E. 139th Street in the Salmon Creek area of Vancouver.
The Legacy Salmon Creek Cancer Healing Center offers support groups, nutrition classes, yoga classes, and art therapy sessions. All services are free for people with a cancer diagnosis receiving care through Legacy Health. Art therapy helps humanize the experience of a cancer diagnosis and the associated medical treatment. It provides the opportunity for creative expression. It integrates emotional healing during and after treatment and promotes post-traumatic growth and resilience.
