Portland Center Stage presents “Choir Boy,” April 21-May 14

Portland Center Stage presents Oscar-winning screenwriter Tarell Alvin McCraney’s “Choir Boy,” running April 21-May 14 on the U.S. Bank Main Stage at The Armory, 128 N.W. Eleventh Ave., Portland. From the writer of “Moonlight” comes this story about Pharus, a young, gay student leading the gospel choir at his elite, all-boys prep school. Identity and community clash in this Tony-nominated hit with rousing music and soul-stirring dance.

Showtimes are at 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays and 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Portland Center Stage offers a BIPOC Affinity Performance at 2 p.m. May 14 with sliding scale tickets and free pre- and post-show offerings, including complimentary Deschutes beer. A pay-what-you-will performance is 7:30 p.m. May 4. Regular ticket prices range from $25 to $98 at pcs.org/choir-boy, 503-445-3700, or in person from the box office. This production is recommended for ages 14 and up. It contains adult situations and language, depictions of racism and homophobia, and sexual and discriminatory language.
