From Nov. 16-19, New Orleans is moving into the Durst Theater at Vancouver School of Arts and Academics. “Joyful Jambalaya” is an original production by 6th-12th graders with a set inspired by New Orleans architecture, music, dance, geography and Mardi Gras spirit. The production begins in the mid-1800s when social gatherings of diverse residents became cotillions and Mardi Gras balls. The Nutcracker Suite is reimagined with music not only by Tchaikovsky but also Duke Ellington and Shorty Rogers. Shows are 7 p.m. Nov. 16, 17 and 18 with a matinee show at 2 p.m. Nov. 19. Admission is $8 for adults and $5 for students and seniors.
