Vancouver Symphony Orchestra performs audience-favorite works by Mendelssohn, Price, Gershwin and Tchaikovsky

September 25, 2022 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

$35

The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra begins its 2022/23 season on Sept. 24 and 25 with Maestro Salvador Brotons returning to the podium for his 32nd season. Pianist Michelle Cann will join Brotons in a program including African American classical composer Florence Price’s “Concerto for Piano in One Movement” and George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue.” The concert will begin with one of Mendelssohn’s “Overtures,” inspired by the composer’s 1829 trip to Fingal’s Cave on the Scottish island of Staffa. The final work on the program will be Tchaikovsky’s “Suite No. 3.” The performances will be hosted by guest presenter Suzanne Nance of All Classical Portland. The VSO will continue to offer the option of viewing the program live from home. All ticket holders will receive a secure email link in order to access the live stream performances.

The Saturday performance will begin at 7 p.m. with the pre-concert show Da Capo, hosted by Ashley Johnson and trombonist Greg Scholl, airing only on the live stream at 6:30 p.m. During intermission, the live stream will feature video programming including an interview with Cann. The Sunday performance will begin at 3 p.m., with the live stream programming beginning at 2:30 p.m. A tech support team will assist those who have Skyissues logging in during the performances.
