Victims’ Advocate Workshop

National Women’s Coalition Against Violence and Exploitation and California Cognitive Behavioral Institute will conduct a full-day workshop on becoming a stronger advocate in the court system for victims of crime. The workshop is 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 8 at Umpqua Bank, 101 E. Sixth St., Vancouver. Attendees will receive a certificate for attending the workshop. Those who complete the workshop will be invited to apply to join NWCAVE’s Advocacy Center for Justice as volunteers.  A continental breakfast, snacks and coffee, tea or water will be provided throughout the day. Lunch is on your own.

This workshop will explore the top characteristics needed to be a good advocate, provide tools for advocation, help you feel comfortable with the court system and explain how to work with the media so as not to revictimize victims of crime. The workshop will encourages advocates to persevere in helping victims and survivors with their court cases and teach why media is important in advocacy and how to develop relationships with the media.
