Friends of Trees is hosting a tree-planting in central Vancouver from 8:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 14 in Bagley Downs, Burton Ridge, Ellsworth Springs, Forest Ridge, Marrion, Meadow Homes, Oakbrook, Ogden and Vancouver Heights. Residents in those neighborhoods may purchase a tree to plant in their yards and volunteers will plant them. To purchase a tree for your household, visit friendsoftrees.org/get-a-tree/ and choose from dozens of large (6-10′ tall) ready-to-plant trees.
Volunteers should arrive by 8:45 a.m. to sign in and be assigned a planting crew. The planting starts at 9 a.m. Friends of Trees will provide gloves, tools, and guidance, as well as light breakfast snacks and coffee, tea and hot chocolate. Volunteers should dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes or boots that can get dirty. To register to plant trees, visit friendsoftrees.org/event-calendar/, select this event and fill out the short registration form.
Volunteers will pickup trucks are especially needed. Sign up at www.friendsoftrees.org/truck if you’re able to help in this way. Youth 15 and under can volunteer with a parent or guardian. Youth 16 and older can volunteer on their own with a waiver signed by their parent or guardian at friendsoftrees.org/youthwaiver. Volunteers will need to transport themselves from the meeting location to the planting sites. If you’re not feeling well, or have been exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19 within three days of the planting, you must stay home.
