The WSU Extension Master Gardeners will host a Mason Bee and Cocoon Cleaning Workshop from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 28 at the 78th Street Heritage Farm in Hazel Dell. Instructor Anne Bulger will teach attendees how to attract these highly beneficial and non-stinging, native bees. The presentation will cover pollination, how to be a successful mason bee host, life cycle and yearly timetable. Students will also get a demonstration of how to harvest and clean mason bee cocoons, plus an opportunity to try it themselves. Bring cocoons to harvest and clean, if desired, as well as a bowl, colander and lidded container. Bring a small container with a lid to take cocoons home. Students will also have a chance to win a mason bee house and accessories. The cost is $5 per person. Register at eventbrite.com/e/mason-bee-workshop-and-cocoon-cleaning-tickets-717474745277.
