Pomeroy Farm will host a Homeschool Open House from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 17. Admission is $6 for kids or adults; ages 2 and under are free. Admission closes a 1 p.m. and the grounds close at 2 p.m. The program, “Children’s Work and Play on a Pre-Electric Farm,” takes about one hour and 30 minutes to complete. The program is designed for students in second through fifth grades in groups of 20 or less. Groups with 20 or more students should call 360-686-3537 for special arrangements.
Students will participate in the chores and play activities of primary-age school children on a pre-electric farm. These include domestic activities and barnyard chores including feeding of farm animals. Participants will also make a historical craft to take home. Visiting groups and families may sign up to receive a copy of an award-winning week-long curriculum to use in lessons at home, which addresses Common Core learning standards for Social Studies, English and Language Arts and Visual Arts.
