Take Root: A Community Planting Day for Environmental Equity

The City of Vancouver and AmeriCorps will plant native trees and other plants in Sam Brown Park, 5722 Montana Lane, Vancouver, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Jan. 15, Martin Luther King, Jr., Day. Julian Ankney, the campus director of Native American programs at WSU Vancouver, and Desiree Hellegers, the director of the Collective for Social and Environmental Justice at WSU Vancouver, will open the day with a conversation about environmental and racial justice. Snacks and hot drinks will be available. Training, gloves, tools, water and snacks will be provided. Families and teens are welcome. Volunteers should dress for the weather and wear long pants and closed-toe shoes.
