Vancouver Art Space, located inside Vancouver Mall at 8700 N.E. Vancouver Mall Drive, Suite 283, Vancouver, is offering a four-week Beginning Drawing course taught by Nathun Finkhouse. The class will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays beginning Aug. 1. Students ages 18 and over will learn basic drawing techniques. Finkhouse will cover everything from how to hold a pencil to how to add realistic shading and textures. Students should bring ideas and photos for inspiration. Students should also bring the following supplies: Pencil set with a variety of lights (H, 2H, 4H, and 6H), mediums (B, HB, and 2B) and darks (4B, 6B, and 8B); a drawing eraser and a kneaded eraser; blending stumps or tortillions in three different sizes; a pencil sharpener; an 8.5×11 sketchbook and a larger drawing pad (11×14, 16×20, or 18×24); and 8.5×11 tracing paper. Recommended brands are Strathmore or Canson for paper and General’s, Faber-Castell and Prismacolor for all other supplies.
