Participate in the World Water Day BioBlitz at Vancouver’s Water Center, 4600 S. Columbia Way, Vancouver, to explore nearby freshwater ecosystems and collect data about the living creatures inhabiting the area in a “snapshot” of ecological biodiversity. Guided nature walks will happen throughout the morning. Walks will focus on finding plants, animals, birds, insects, mushrooms and amphibians. Use iNaturalist to catalog all the living things found in the area. (No previous knowledge of iNaturalist is required.) Registration is required at cityofvancouver.us/events/world-water-day-bioblitz/.
This family-friendly event is suitable for anyone age 6 and older. Expect to walk 1.5 miles on uneven terrain, sandy beaches, muddy wetland areas and paved pathways. Children should be accompanied by an adult. The Water Center is closed on weekends, but participants can use the restroom inside the building.
