Botanical printing uses historical methods to capture colors, textures, and shapes found in nature – resulting in stunning plant portraits on fabric. Leaves are layered onto natural fabrics, tightly bundled, then steamed or boiled. This environmentally gentle process permanently transfers botanical pigments without synthetic dyes, inks or paints. Textile artist Anna Zell will lead participants step-by-step through the eco-printing process. In this class, local mushroom enthusiast Leah Bendlin will teach the basics of mushroom identification for beginners, including physical features, ecology and anecdotes about mushroom oddities and beauty, followed by a walk in the Garden to see mushrooms fruiting in their natural habitats and to practice identification. Creating an Edible Landscape

This workshop provides insight and tools for thoughtfully incorporating edible plants into the landscape — from annual veggies and herbs to perennial berries and fruit trees. We’ll discuss design tips, ways to build fertile soil, and how to conserve water while producing a harvest. Participants will also learn about native plants that feature edible fruit and nuts, as well as how to invite beneficial insects to their garden. Make a plan for a beautiful — and delicious — landscape.
